Vinčanke

A figurine discovered in 1910 in Vinča, near Belgrade, after which the Vinča culture was named. Although it is not the largest archaeological site, it is considered one of the oldest.

The figurine is approximately 30 cm tall and made entirely of black terracotta. In this composition, it is presented both in profile and in frontal view.

Artistic freedom allows me to reinterpret the figurine in polychrome, using my distinctive style. In the background, the sun is rising, symbolizing the creation of new life.

The owl is a symbol of wisdom and was highly respected in the Vinča culture. The figurine’s body is adorned with a rich pattern of flowing lines. The breasts are subtly indicated as two small suns.

Another highly revered migratory bird. Its return each year symbolizes the rebirth and renewal of life.

The eagle is the king of the skies, a symbol of strength and majestic presence. The old head has fallen below, while a new head emerges above, heralding the arrival of new life.

Most Vinča figurines have heads depicted frontally. The falcon is another highly revered bird.

None of the painting titles are directly related to their content; they are entirely fictional.

The title is given in honor of an extinct wetland bird. The head is tilted to the left because it was borrowed from another figurine.

The hand is the ultimate human organ that helped transform early humans into modern humans, while simultaneously undergoing its own evolution and refinement.

A two-headed figurine, entirely black in color. It was discovered at the Gomolava archaeological site near the village of Hrtkovci, on the left bank of the Sava River.

It has been interpreted as representing Siamese twins, and they are certainly twins. My interpretation, however, is that they are two bodies—a man and a woman—who, over the course of their lives, become one body.

A fixed four-sided view of the figurine, capturing its form from multiple angles. The composition is rich in linear motifs. Every line on the figurine must be faithfully transferred into the new composition so that the original visual message of the figurine is preserved.

The artist has the freedom to build upon the original through painting, while ensuring that the recognizable character and form of the figurine remain intact.

The lower part of the figurine dissolves into an abundance of light, from which a new figure emerges in the form of a child. This is why I believe these are, after all, a man and a woman joined together as one, creating a new being.

The figurine comes from the Pločnik archaeological site, one of the largest known urban settlements of the Neolithic. The lower part of the background is filled with fruit, ranging from dark orange to bright yellow, representing the light before dawn, which is hinted at in the upper part of the background.

Eyes that fix their gaze upon us. The costume is richly decorated with intricate ornamentation. In the background, open hands spread out like rays of the sun.

The imprint of an open hand with outstretched fingers suggests the earliest forms of written signs: one extended finger, one sign; two fingers, a second sign; three fingers, a third sign. By combining different finger positions, other signs can be created.

This culture contains around 40,000 signs. They were later systematized, but never deciphered. Some of these signs can also be found in various pre-Latin writing systems, including the Cretan Linear B script. All of these scripts are approximately 1,500 years younger than the Vinča signs.
