Vinčanke

This figurine was discovered in 1910 in Vinča, near Belgrade, and gave its name to the Vinča culture. Although Vinča is not the largest archaeological site, it is considered the oldest. The figurine is approximately thirty centimetres tall and is made entirely of black terracotta.

In this composition, it is shown both in profile and facing forward.Artistic freedom has allowed me to reinterpret it in colour, using my distinctive visual style.In the background, the rising sun symbolises the creation of new life.

She has become a mother and is giving birth to new life, represented by the head of a new figurine.

Although positioned in the lower part of the composition, she remains its central focus. The sunlight heralds the arrival of new life.
